April Wishlist

///  1. Plie Date shoes by Modcloth /// 2. Porcelain Bangle by The Awesome Project /// 3. Ginger Spicy Dress by Modcloth /// 4. Coral Czech Glass Beads via fivesisters /// 5. Dotted Chambray Boyshirt by Madewell // 6. Vintage Avacado Green Desk Lamp via charliesnet ///

My wishlist for April is light and airy because that’s what I’m craving more than anything these days. The sun is coming out more and the snow is melting in Montreal (though not in my hometowns!). Its almost warm enough to lose SOME layers and maybe consider something other than boots on my feet. Tights can be lighter weight than wool. Shirts can almost be worn without layers under and over. I can feel spring coming in full force and I can’t wait! April has me craving light dresses and chambray, bigger jewelry that doesn’t have to be worn over many sweaters, like bracelets! Delicate crafts, especially more semi-permanent bracelets to add to my collection (hence the beads), and this cute chambray shirt to replace my favourite but ill fitting denim shirt as the best layer around. The lamp is because it still gets dark in the early evenings and it would be nice to be able to see at my desk while I burn the evening to late night oil working on this thesis of mine before it gets too nice out to want to work.

April showers over snow any day. Bring on spring!

{wishlist} February

Feb wishlist//1. Raw Turquoise Necklace by Moonwalk // 2. Geometric Iceberg Print by the Pairabirds // 3. Diamond Recycled Glass Bowl by Meg A Myers Design// 4. Kobo Mini Sleepcover // 5. Double Braid Knuckle Ring by Arrow Jewelry // 6. Archive Mini by Jenny N Design //

I’m an avid online looker. I rarely buy anything because I have no money but if I did, I’m telling you I would have packages coming all the time. I love seeing what’s being handmade out in the world and what creative and beautiful things people are making. Often I try to figure out if I can make it myself. This is my February list of what I’ve looked at, liked, want, and can’t make myself. Its still very much winter in Montreal so I’m liking a lot of things that can work with a lifestyle that is quiet, inside and dressed warm. Hence the jewelery that I can layer over my many layers. I’m also craving bright colour in my life since its been ridiculously grey for weeks and everyone wears a lot of black here, especially in the winter, so I am absolutely in love with this print.  I have this fascination with icebergs and I love how they’ve made it look. I’ve also been looking for a great bag to carry my stuff around in to grow up from the backpack look and I think I’ve found the perfect one. The archive mini is gorgeous, not too big, has place for my computer and ipad, and is a great in the midnight blue. The dish is just really nice, and the kobo mini cover is to take care of my new favourite possession.

Almost all of these are from etsy. I’m so in awe of what people can make.keetha base

{wishlist} rumpledcake eau de parfum by twigs and honey

Marseau and I have been having this debate. He wears scents, I don’t. Like at all. My shampoo and body wash are very mildly scented and you can’t really smell them after the shower, I use unscented laundry detergent, and don’t wear deod0rate. He, on the other hand, likes scents. He has strong scented laundry detergent and body wash (yes, we have our own – I did say it was a debate), uses strong scented deodorant and hair products, and (my favourite) wears a really nice scented oil. I don’t mind that he wears scents (other than one of his hair products that I hate), but he prefers that I smell like something, or, on hot days, that I don’t smell like hot body.

I am resistant to this.

Until I found this scent.

I was cruising around wedding websites looking for inspiration to send to my sister-in-law, she is making me a veil headband, and one of the sites  (that makes very nice veils, etc by the way) also makes this scent. The site is Twigs and Honey.

The scent is called Rumpledcake, which is not my favourite name but the smell sounds amazing. Check this out:

With top notes of violet flower, bergamot and neroli, middle notes of tea tree and base notes of sandalwood and rose

Sounds pretty great too me, somewhat floral but not too much, kinda subtle.

Get this though. Its made of entirely organic essential oils and the base is 100% organic jojoba oil. Its an actual natural scent without any chemicals! I would wear this happily. I think I’m going to order myself the tiny bottle soon to give it a go. If I like it I would be open to larger bottle gifts. Hint Hint.

{wishlist} Fuji x100

Fuji x100

Ever since my Canon Rebel mysteriously disappeared from my house a couple of years ago I’ve been sans a manual digital camera. Not a huge issue, I have a beautiful film Nikon FE and a small point and shoot canon, as well as a couple polaroids and a fuji instax. And my phone. Plus its not like I depend on having a good camera for my work or anything. I just really love taking pictures. Having a good manual digital has been lacking in my life and in my photography. I’ve been in the market for a while, watching to see what comes out, going to LL Lozeau regularly to oogle and dream. The weight of a manual camera, the ability to look through a viewfinder and see the picture I’m going to take, the quality, the functions that allow a greater range of lighting, speed, etc.

Okay, I really miss taking great digital photos. I know that’s not all about the equipment but you know what? Sometimes it is.

Anyway, I had the pleasure of talking shop with a friend, Michael Abril who is a fucking fantastic photographer. I was asking his opinion on what’s out there these days and he suggested this camera. Its a good blend of an SLR without all the bulk of the other cameras. It takes HD video and is fully manual. The only downside is that there’s no way to change lenses. Which is ultimately fine because I don’t do that often anyway.

Since talking with Michael I’ve done a bunch of research myself on this camera and have become obsessed. I’m not normally a fuji person. I tend to stay with canon and nikon for their proven quality and long history. I do have one of the fuji instax and I like it a lot but its a (relatively) cheap plastic camera that I wasn’t expecting much beyond fun times with. For my fancier cameras I’m a little more picky. I haven’t played with this camera in real life (yet – I’m planning a trip to LL Lozeau soon) but I like what I’ve read, and I like the smaller size (sometimes the bigger ones can be cumbersome),

I like that fuji has kept the old school look of it. I love the way camera look and some of the newer ones don’t really look like real cameras anymore.

The x100 is pretty pricey though, and nearly as nice is the fuji x10

Which, truthfully, is probably what I will end up getting. Its half the price and therefore closer to my budget (which is nothing right now but I’m hoping it will be something eventually). I haven’t played with either and am not totally clear on what the practical differences are. Other than the x100 is probably better and faster at everything. Anyway, I’m pretty excited about this camera in my future.

Has anyone tried these cameras out? What do you think? A list of pros and cons would be so great!

{wishlist} casserole

Oval Terrine

Guys I really want this. I know Le Creuset is really really expensive but I promise to be so nice to it and keep it forever okay?

I have 2 cast iron skillets that I love to bits and am so protective of that Marseau is afraid to wash them. I’m not saying that I want more pots that only I will wash but seriously, how great will these be for cooking. The site even says that the Oval Terrine is great for baking bread. Which is exactly what I began looking for a dutch oven for. I’ve been baking bread in a skillet with a glass lid but I’m afraid that my skillet can’t take it like that. One dried out something fierce the last time and I had to lovingly season it again. Which I’m okay with but don’t want to do all the time. See how much I need this?

Of less urgency but still I would use the hell out of a good size French Oven.

So if you find yourself with some extra cash (or are talking to one of my parents who might be looking for a future birthday gift for me), I would be very very appreciative and would cook you all sorts of nice things in them.

In this nice orange red okay?

{wishlist} shoes

Seriously though, how nice are these shoes? I found these via ohdeardrea (I’ve been reading her archived posts like a novel, I love finding blogs that grab me, especially ones with crafts and cute babies).

Anyway they are from this company called Osborn, which has a vaguely ‘do good’ mentality – to be honest I didn’t look into it that much, I just like the shoes. I pretty much like all the designs but the booties are awesome.

Spring is coming, I swear it is. And I would rock these like crazy. Oh to be independently wealthy. Sigh.
